Western Horsemanship for Youth & Teens

Pony Club at MeadowView Reins is a structured, nationally recognized horsemanship program rooted in Western riding and ranch-based learning. Following Canadian Pony Club standards, we support children and teens as they grow into confident, capable equestrians—both on the ground and in the saddle.

We welcome children ages 5+ and teens, grouped by age and riding ability, so there is something appropriate and engaging for everyone.

Riders work toward achievement badges that recognize learning in:

  • Horse care and stable management

  • Riding skills and safety

  • Horse behavior and welfare

  • Responsibility, teamwork, and leadership

Badges help children set goals and celebrate progress in a tangible way.

Each Pony Club member progresses at their own pace.

Optional level testing opportunities are offered locally for riders who wish to:

  • Measure their skills against a national standard

  • Track personal growth and development

  • Work toward internationally recognized Pony Club levels

Testing is never mandatory. Each rider succeeds at their own rate, and participation is always the family’s choice.

We offer Pony Club–specific camps during school holidays, giving members extended time to:

  • Focus on riding and horsemanship

  • Complete badge work

  • Build confidence and friendships

  • Experience full, immersive Pony Club days

Throughout the year, members are invited to:

  • Achievement celebrations

  • Badge and milestone recognition

  • Pony Club parties and special gatherings

These events celebrate effort, growth, and community.

Challenge Weeks introduce friendly, team-based competition through:

  • Skill games

  • Horsemanship challenges

  • Problem-solving activities

These weeks are designed to build confidence, sportsmanship, and teamwork—never pressure.

Program Structure

 

⏰ Session Length:

2–3 hours per session

Each session includes:

  • 1-hour paid riding lesson

  • Stable management instruction

  • Achievement badge work

  • Unmounted horsemanship learning

  • social snack break, giving riders time to: Connect with like-minded kids, Build friendships and Practice sportsmanship and teamwork. Parents are asked to send a snack with their child to enjoy during this time.

Saturday Morning Pony Club

A great option for families looking for a weekend commitment.

Saturday sessions offer a balanced mix of riding, horsemanship, and social connection—perfect for kids who thrive in a relaxed, community-focused environment.

🚚 We offer transportation services to and from Williams Lake for our Saturday program. 

Monday Homeschool Pony Club

Designed specifically for homeschool families.

These daytime sessions allow riders to learn during traditional school hours while still participating in a structured, nationally recognized program. A wonderful way for homeschoolers to build friendships and develop responsibility through horsemanship.

🚚 We offer transportation to and from Williams Lake for our Monday day-time program. 

 

Tuesday Afterschool Pony Club

Ideal for riders attending traditional school.

Afterschool Pony Club offers a consistent weekday option that blends learning, movement, and fun at the barn—helping kids unwind, connect, and grow after a school day.

Riding Portion:
$125 per 4-week series
(1-hour riding lesson each week)

Stable Management & Badge Work:
Provided at no additional cost

In keeping with Pony Club’s not-for-profit spirit, MeadowView Reins provides all unmounted instruction, materials, and preparation as a way of giving back to the community.

 

  • Sessions are planned and prepped by our team

  • Supplies are provided by us

  • Supported by a dedicated team of volunteers

All riders must hold a current Pony Club Canada Membership, which includes:

  • Horse Council BC Membership

  • Canadian Pony Club Membership

Total Annual Cost: $189

 

This membership allows riders to receive official handbooks, earn badges, access testing opportunities, and be recognized within the national Pony Club system.

Riders should come prepared with:

 

  • Riding boots with a heel

  • ASTM-approved riding helmet (For families just getting started, ASTM-approved riding helmets are available to borrow at no additional cost.)

  • Weather-appropriate outdoor clothing

  • A water bottle

  • A snack for social snack time

  • A positive attitude and a willingness to have lots of fun

Step 2: Book Your Pony Club Session
Once registered, families will:

  • Create a rider profile in our booking system click here

  • Select their preferred day, time, and program

  • Register for their chosen session
